In the 1980’s and 1990’s, Sharon Wegscheider Cruse was a leader in the fields of family therapy, co-dependency and addiction treatment. She wrote several books and produced several films that shaped the direction of counseling and treatment for individuals and families. Her methods were the basis of not only her successful residential program Onsite Workshops (currently in Tennessee) - but influenced countless programs in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. Onsite continues today with an alumni of 31,000+ individuals and family members. Her books and films continue to be used in countless training programs. She was also a protégé of Virginia Satir (founder of family therapy). Her life partner, Dr. Joseph Cruse has worked with her both at Onsite and in the development of training films and publications of books.

These classic books, DVD’s and audio tapes are now being re-released by Woodshaven, Inc. and being made available for use in today’s treatment and training programs. They are as relevant today as they were when originally developed. They are what are called the classic series.

The Family Trap
First developed in the 1980s and updated in the 1990’s, this video is the original foundation for understanding Sharon’s family system concepts and the development of her roles (Family Hero, Scapegoat, Lost Child and Mascot). Not only are the roles an integral part of treatment and training programs, they have been used to understand systems in corporations, industry, schools, churches, foundations and any other group of people who develop a system.

Another Chance
Filmed during an intense 14 hour actual “Family Reconstruction”, this 40 minute film captures Sharon directing a moving psychodrama helping her client (s) to move from pain and emotional trauma to releasing that pain, making new choices and accepting responsibility for future growth. Sharon is at her best using experiential therapy to bring hope and healing to leave behind the guilt and hurt from a painful past. This film will touch the hearts, the feelings and the powerful inner core of everyone who sees it.

Sexuality and Intimacy
This film remains the best comprehensive film on these topics. In this film, Sharon applies her expertise on the subjects of sex, intercourse, emotions, sexual addiction, intimacy, nicotine addiction etc. This information is straight-forward and necessary for any serious treatment program or counseling program.

Sculpturing
People who have been hurt often do not trust words…. there have been too many games played and too many half-truths and lies told. In place of words, Sharon uses sculpturing (a technique in which people are physically placed in positions symbolizing their feelings). This is a method where a demonstration leads to the release of feelings and emotions which then lead to sharing and relief. The end result is the beginning of healing. Sharon demonstrates how sculpture can be used.

Family Reconstruction
Family Reconstruction is a tool developed by Virginia Satir and expanded on by Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse. Early in Sharon’s career, Virginia directed Sharon’s reconstruction. Virginia later wrote to Sharon “Having this experience with you was one of the highlights of my life”. With Virginia’s support and guidance, Sharon added her own elements to the reconstruction process. She has passed this incredible process on to others. (See earlier DVD called ANOTHER CHANCE). This video combines Virginia sharing her philosophy and also shares several clips of Virginia directing Sharon’s reconstruction.

Coupleship
Maintaining a healthy relationship (coupleship) requires a balance of each partner’s commitment to individual growth and to the relationship. This video explains the impact of “emotional baggage” from the past and the need to protect the coupleship from current invaders. It demonstrates experiential techniques and presents clear vivid images of the challenges and rewards of building an intimate relationship. An excellent tool for therapists, family programs and couple’s programs.

Family Decathexis……….By Joseph R. Cruse, M.D.
A family is not forever---each one has a career, a beginning and an end. The myths that we are always mothering and fathering(and son-ing and daughter-ing ) is explored in this film. Releasing and becoming free from rigid and passionate controls, holdings and enmeshments is the process of family decathexis described by Dr. Cruse. It is essential to full maturing and becoming a responsible adult. Important for therapist and programs that treat families.
